We recently undertook a Mountain Skills 1 Course with Fergal from Álaind Walking Sneem.
The two day course covered route planning, navigation and compass skills as well as mountain hazards and environment. It was the perfect balance between theory and practice (out in the hills of Sneem).
Fergal's experience and expertise enabled him to deliver the course at a pace that was easy to assimilate no matter of previous experience.
Looking forward to part 2 now.

Wonderfully welcoming , kind and helpful people. I was amazed by the whole learning experience, I have so much more confidence in myself and my abilities out hiking. The tutor was so patient and the other participants were happy to share their learning and hiking experiences with the group, this meant a lot as I am a newbie to hiking. I would highly recommend it, marvellous views and scenery.

Had a brilliant two days doing Mountain Skills 1 with Fergal. A very interesting course that blends the theory side of map reading with practical experience out on the mountains. Fergal delivered the material in an excellent manner that was easily understood. The course was paced very well and this allowed me to absorb and understand the information and apply it out in the mountains. Met some lovely people on the course as well which enhanced the overall experience. Would highly recommend Fergal. Thank you for a wonderful two days.

Just home from a sun soaked walking holiday with Feargal, Trish and Chris from Álaind Walking Holidays, Sneem, Co Kerry. 3 fun days of walking, talking and quiet with like minded walkers. Each walk with a surprise around each corner, beautiful views over Kenmare Bay, The Pot Man! the Telephone Kiosk! Tea and a sweet treat at The Blind Piper Pub in Caherdaniel. Walking through beautiful woods and finally each evening ending with a cool dip in the stunning Derrynane Beach. Thanks to Feargal and Trish and Chris for their warm hospitality and great nourishing breakfasts. We will be back. Colette and Michael

Fergal was a fantastic instructor: experienced, clear, concise and very patient. His real life examples brought the course content very much to life and made for a great couple of days. I started off as a complete navigational novice and now feel much more confident in my ability. Will definitely be back for the MS 2 after I have got my new skills down a bit more!
